+ Many, Many More.........
Since first picking up a pair of drumsticks at 9 years old, all I ever wanted to do was make a living from playing drums, and after a four year stint studying at Leeds College of Music, that’s exactly what I’ve done for the last fifteen years (I know, I don’t look mid thirties, I’ve led a charmed life!!!).
In that time I've worked with numerous bands, at venues ranging from pubs and clubs through to major festivals (Glastonbury, Ribfest, Cambridge Rock Festival, Acoustic Festival of GB etc…..), with me regularly playing alongside some of the world’s finest musicians, including on the jazz front Alan Barnes (BBC Big Band/Bryan Ferry), Derek Nash (Jools Holland’s Rhythm & Blues Orchestra), Bruce Adams (BBC Big Band/Scottish Radio Orchestra) & Lee Gibson (BBC Big Band & Concert Orchestra), and more recently on the rockier side of things with bass legends Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy / Whitesnake / Ted Nugent) and TM Stevens (James Brown / Joe Cocker / Miles Davis / Tina Turner / The Pretenders).
Gigsiwise, my main gig currently is with Devon based rock band ‘Swans In Flight’ (www.swansinflight.com), who as well as playing numerous festivals and theatre dates in their own right also regularly act as ‘house band’ for major music shows, including the London Bass Guitar Show and London Acoustic Guitar Show, as well as previously performing special guest and support shows for artists as diverse as Seth Lakeman, Dr Feelgood and the mighty Thin Lizzy. The ‘Swans’ have also recently (2012) been in the studio writing and recording new material in collaboration with Sony writing team Cassell ‘The Beatmaker’ and Eric Appapoulay, who have previously worked with artists such as Plan B and The Streets, and have won Ivor Novello and Guild awards for their production skills.
I've also devoted a large portion of my time to education, with me teaching Drummers of all ages and standards for the last 10 years, culminating with me currently putting finishing touches to my first tuition book due for release in the early part of the year. I am also a very regular writer/contributor for DRUMMER magazine, working alongside Jules Tabberer-Stewart (Editor) as editorial assistant to bring interviews, features and reviews on a monthly basis, as well as having my own tuition column alongside some of the finest tutors / performers in the world.
Playing wise, I love all types of music, and strongly believe in the old Louis Armstrong phrase that there are only two types of music: good & bad, regardless of style!!! Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to play Jazz with some of the worlds finest Jazz Musicians, Rock with some of the worlds finest Rock musicians, Reggae with an actual Reggae band in St. Lucia, as well as making people dance, feel, and enjoy music all over the world, and have met many fine musicians and friends along the way……
